Military Dogs

In times of trouble, we all know our dogs will protect us as well as our home, but did you know dogs are also protecting our country and our troops? Currently, military dogs are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, sniffing for IED's among other dangerous jobs. These dogs, along with their handlers from every military service, are deployed worldwide to support the war on terror, helping to safeguard military bases and activities and to detect bombs and other explosives before they inflict harm. With an acute sense of smell five to 10 times stronger than a human's, working dogs are able to detect minute traces of explosives or drugs and alert their handlers of their presence. The vast majority of U.S. military working dogs are German and Dutch shepherds and Belgian malinois.
